Dr. Garant graduated medical school from Western University of Health Sciences (http://www.westernu.edu/university-history/), in Pomona, CA in 1998. She is a board certified Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or D.O.( http://www.osteopathic.org/ ) specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. She finished her residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Riverside County Regional Medical Center in 2002. She practiced for two years in Ventura, CA and moved to College Station, TX in 2004. Her husband Michael Smotherman is an Associate Professor in Biology at Texas A and M University. "I owed Mike a trip to wherever he needed to go!" Mike teaches neurophysiology and studies our local bats. They have two school-aged children, Nicholas and Sophia, two cats, a dog and two guinea pigs. "We are very happily raising our family in this wonderful town!"
Her interests include all areas of women's health. She especially loves delivering babies, of course, but also takes care of irregular menses, menopausal issues, simple infertility, abnormal paps and cervix dysplasia, as well as incontinence and pelvic prolapse. She often sees young women who sometimes feel more comfortable with a female practitioner. Dr. Garant's nickname is, "Sunshine." She always has a smile waiting for her patients.
